There’s something about autumn that makes us pause. The light softens, the leaves turn, and the pace of the season invites us to slow down. It’s a time of year filled with cozy comforts and small traditions, whether that means pulling out a favorite blanket project, lighting a pumpkin-scented candle, or savoring a slice of apple pie.
To celebrate the season, we asked our Monarch Knitting team to share their favorite fall rituals, the little traditions that make this time of year feel special. From stationery to baked goods, decorating to travel, here’s how we're savoring the season.
For Ann, fall rituals include a touch of handwritten charm. “If I have to jot a note to a friend, I use my Lobird pumpkin notecards,” she shares. A simple but thoughtful way to mark the season.
Diane marks the season with a shift in her knitting basket. “I put away my lovely black yarn projects with the time change and pick up lighter colors that are easier to see in the shorter, darker days and evenings of the holiday season.” Such a smart + practical ritual! For Erin, fall means travel. “Since we don't have lots of fall color in Monterey, it is my favorite time of year to travel; anywhere with crisp days, deep blue skies, and beautiful turning leaves.” This year, she’s heading on a road trip with her sisters, celebrating birthdays and anniversaries along the way. “The months are filled with cards, phone calls, and in-person celebrations when we can be together.”
Molly loves to bring the feeling of fall indoors, even if Monterey weather doesn’t always cooperate. “I love fall decorating and making my place feel as autumnal and cozy as I can - pillows, pumpkins, and a candle burning all the time.” She’s already made her way through one Wax & Wool candle this season!
Connie’s rituals revolve around the kitchen. “I love cooking and baking with all the great fall squashes and veggies. Lots of stews and roasted veggies. And of course apple pie and pumpkin bread!” And when it comes to knitting, she’s all about oversized cardigans - perfect companions for cozy evenings. Rebecca has a tradition that’s as practical as it is comforting: “When it gets cold out, I pick up a half-finished blanket that’s big enough for me to curl up under while I work on it.” A project that warms both hands and heart! The cozy Mowbry blanket shown here in Berroco's Heathside yarn.
For Jenn, fall rituals come with a bit of flavor. “As seasons turn, I love to take stock of my pantry and bar for seasonal ingredients, making homemade syrups to craft new autumn drinks. I love to sip and stitch!” With a warmer fall expected in the PNW, she’s dreaming up lighter cocktails: apple cider spritzes and cranberry sangrias. She says, "P.S. David Lebovitz has a fantastic Harvest Spritz recipe!"
However you celebrate - whether it’s with a new project on the needles, a favorite candle burning, or a mug in hand - we hope you find joy in the cozy rituals that make this time of year special.
