We are looking forward to welcoming you to for a few wonderful days of knitting, learning, and time together. Below, you will find an overview of our retreat schedule, class preparations, packing suggestions, and other helpful details.

SUN, SEPT. 27

Welcome to Pacific Grove

3:00 p.m. — Hotel check-in and welcome in the courtyard

6:15 p.m. — Depart for dinner

6:30 p.m. — Welcome dinner

Bring your favorite finished project or knitting tool to share over dinner.

MON, SEPT. 28

Garment knitting and a private shopping evening

9:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. — Smart Strategies for Garment Knitting, Part 1

12:15–1:45 p.m. — Lunch

2:00–5:00 p.m. — Smart Strategies for Garment Knitting, Part 2

6:00–7:30 p.m. — Private shopping, wine, and heavy hors d’oeuvres at Monarch Knitting. Plus, special guests!

TUES, SEPT. 29

Knitting know-how and a final dinner

9:30 a.m.–12:00 p.m. — Math for Knitters

12:30 p.m. — Lunch

2:00–4:00 p.m. — Mending

5:00 p.m. — Optional Pilates class at the hotel

6:30 p.m. — Dinner at hotel, The Caledonian

WED, SEPT. 30

Coffee, pastries, and farewell

9:30 a.m. — Coffee, pastries, and farewell at Monarch Knitting with special guests!

Preparing for Your Classes

Mending Homework

Please complete the mending homework provided by Kate Atherley before arriving at the retreat.

What to Bring to Class

  • Your completed mending homework.
  • US 6–8 knitting needles, or 4–5 mm, in your preferred configuration.
  • Scrap medium-weight yarn in a light color.
  • A crochet hook in a similar size.
  • A tape measure.
  • A calculator or calculator app.
  • Any knitting patterns you would like to discuss.

We will provide a copy of Math for Knitters.

What to Pack

Pacific Grove weather can change throughout the day, so layers are always a good idea. Mornings and evenings along the coast can be cool.

We suggest bringing:

  • Comfortable, casual clothing.
  • A sweater, cardigan, or jacket.
  • Comfortable walking shoes.
  • A hat for outdoor lunches and activities.
  • Your current knitting project and its needles and notions.
  • A favorite finished project or favorite finished (or WIP) sweater.
  • Your favorite knitting tool or notion.

Your individual hotel confirmation number will be provided by email. If a friend, spouse, or other non-attending guest will be sharing your room, please let us know so we can add their name to your reservation.
