Spotlight On: Woolfolk Fleck Bulky

You know we love all things Woolfolk here at the shop. Kristin Ford, the founder of Woolfolk, learned to knit from her grandmother, Katherine Temple Woolfolk, and the rest is history. The yarn is lovely: Tynd, Far, Flette, Luft, Fleck...the list goes on. They have just released a new yarn in time for winter knitting, Fleck Bulky.

Fleck Bulky's base is like their other yarns, predominately Ovis 21, an ultimate merino that combines the feel of cashmere with the wear of merino. This base comprises 90% Ovis 21 and 10% Donegal, creating the tweedy fleck. The lofty chainette construction gives the yarn a cloud-like weight, making it perfect for quick knits or bulky sweaters.

Each 100-gram hank has 109 yards or 100 meters. Being a super bulky yarn, it knits up quickly, giving you 2- 2.75 stitches per inch on a US 13 or 17 (9-12mm) needle.

This yarn is a bulky lover's dream! We've rounded up some pattern inspiration to tempt you (and honestly, all of us at the shop!)...Which one will you choose?

The Bonneville hat will certainly keep one cozy!  Knit in a simple 2x2 rib; the pattern includes a beanie (shown above) or a brimmed option. This classic hat only requires one skein and will make a great gift for a friend, family member, or yourself.

We're always recommending folks new to sweater knitting to start with a baby or child-size pattern. Why? It's a great intro to learning the basics of sweater construction. Knitting one in a bulky yarn will make it easier, too.  We're eyeing Bracken by Annie Rowden, a cute, simple, top-down raglan sweater that will make for a cozy, wooly layering piece for little ones. It's an excellent gift option, too!

Treat yourself to Tenzen, a comfortably cozy pullover that is sure to become your favorite this season.  The added details of a flared mock turtleneck, roomy sleeves, and a tapered bottom give this casual sweater a modern twist.  It would be so lovely in their navy hue!

Add a cozy accessory to your wardrobe with Bulky Dotty Cowl by Stephanie Jessica Lau. Featuring a fun little textured dot pattern, all you need is just two skeins of Fleck Bulky, and you'll have this quick cowl ready to sport for the season.

How could we not add this darling pattern, Burton Bear Cowl by Heidi May, to this list?  It's too cute!  Part cowl and part hoodie, this fun pattern will keep little cubs cozily attractive with its shaped topper and slouchy cowl. We are certain little ones will have fun wearing it, too!

Whether knitting for yourself or, a friend or a family member, a project Fleck Bulky will surround the wearer in cozy softness.
