Oct 2nd Newsletter

Dear Friends,

It’s October, and I couldn’t be happier. While I’ve never been a big Halloween person, I decided it was time to bring a little seasonal spirit back into my home. Since my daughters grew up and moved out, I haven’t done much decorating for the holidays, but a podcast I recently listened to really struck a chord. The host mentioned how holiday décor helps mark the rhythm of the year, and without it, time can start to feel a bit flat. That idea has stayed with me. So this year, I’m dusting off the bins that have sat untouched in the garage and adding a few festive touches around the house. Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, the Fourth of July… I’m ready to celebrate all year long.

It’s been a quiet week at home, and that has been lovely. I’ve had lots of quality time with Bash and little Ben, who’s growing like a weed! This weekend, Ben will start puppy playtime and training. He’s still too young for a full class (those start at 16 weeks), but our local trainer offers a special puppy meetup, and I can’t wait to see him romp around with a pack of fellow youngsters. It’s sure to be a hoot!

We’ve got a beautiful new yarn on the shelves this week from West Yorkshire Spinners, and it’s a special one. Created in collaboration with The William Morris Society, this DK-weight yarn features a rich, thoughtfully curated palette inspired by iconic Morris designs. It’s spun from a trio of British fleeces: luxurious Bluefaced Leicester, soft Bluefaced Kerry Hill, and rustic Masham, making it both lofty and full of character. Fair Isle patterns, cozy hats, timeless sweaters… this yarn is ready for it all. I’m planning to cast on a vest!

Knit, and be happy,

Ann

🧶 Crochet Borders for Knitters

It’s a weekend full of color, creativity, and community - you won’t want to miss it!

Bright, bold, and oh-so-squishy! Andrea Mowry’s Jaunty Shawl is knit in sport-weight with Spincycle Dyed in the Wool, making each kit cheerful and unique. Half-Fishermen’s Rib gives it texture and bounce, while the easy construction makes this one a relaxing project you’ll want on repeat. Definitely a fun piece for the season!

Simple, stylish, and full of possibilities! The Wendover is a playful two-tone kerchief worked in Woolfolk Far with garter stitch and German short rows. Just two skeins make this versatile piece, perfect for exploring color play and creating a gift-worthy accessory you’ll wear all season long.

After seeing a client’s finished Ansonia, we were instantly smitten and knew we had to make kits! Designed by Debbie O’Neill’s, this fun pattern combines stripes and lace in the most satisfying way. Our kits pair two colors of Magpie Swanky Sock for softness, drape, and just the right touch of luxury. A fun knit, a striking accessory, and a project you’ll reach for again and again.

Elegant leaves meet cozy texture in  Amy van de Laar’s Greenery Mitts. These richly patterned mitts balance clusters, cables, and lace in an approachable way, creating a graceful fit and a timeless look. We’ve paired the design with Sandnes Garn Double Sunday, whose soft merino and stitch definition make every detail shine. A project that’s both fun to knit and beautiful to wear. A great holiday gift, too!

Prospect Pullover

We've always admired Tori Yu’s designs, and her Prospect Pullover has quickly become a new favorite. With its timeless stripes of textured stitches, drop-shoulder construction, and polished details, it’s a sweater you’ll knit and wear again and again. We’ve paired it with Kelbourne Woolens Scout, one of our favorite sweater yarns—cozy, reliable, and made for everyday wear. The Cinnamon Heather solor is calling my name...
